About the owner, Lori Thuestad.
I was born and raised in the Hampshire/Burlington area, and moved to Kaneville in 2002.
Ask my family, and they'll tell you about my history with animals, possibly using words like "obsession" or "fanatic".
I would use the words passion and commitment.
I've been an animal lover all my life, and remember having pets at a very young age.
In my twenties, I was fortunate enough to be hired by a pair of veterinarians who were willing to train me to work in their hospital. My first day found me assisting a surgery to remove bladder stones from a Standard Poodle, and a deeper love and respect for animals grew.
Over the years, I've used the knowledge given to me to adopt and foster many, many animals. And the animals in return have given me joy and fulfillment.
Two things have inspired me to start a business I call PetTender. The first is my own group of furry kids. I have three dogs and five cats. With the exception of one of them, they are all foundlings and strays. I haven't had a vacation in over ten years, which is okay. There's no place like home. But I've asked myself a dozen times, "What would I do if I had to go out of town?" I'm fussy about my furry kids. Their feeding and grooming, their daily routine, walks and play time are all important parts of their days.
I don't consider a boarding facility an option for us for a couple of different reasons. The first being the stress it would cause my gang, and the second being the cost. At an average of $13 a day, per pet, a week's boarding fees would cost almost as much as the vacation itself.
The second reason I started PetTender is because I've come to the realization that I'll never live long enough to have all the furry kids I would like to! I have a mental list of all the breeds of dogs I'd like to have, and I have to face the fact that I'm just not going to live to be 200.
By offering the service of in-home pet care, I hope to aid people like myself who love their pets. Life can get crazy. Maybe it's not a vacation you seek, maybe you commute to work and are gone for ten hours a day. Ten hours is a long day for you and your pets.
PetTender strives to offer personalized in-home care for your furry kids, letting you relax and go out into the world and do what you need to do. It also gives me the joy of meeting lots and lots of dogs and cats.
